Steering Committee creates the foundation necessary for site leaders & participants to successfully develop their Alternative Breaks experience and relationship with community partners. Each member of the Steering Committee serves a specific role that aids development of all logistical and educational components related to the program. 

STEERING COMMITTEE EXPECTATIONS

Steering Committee members should be in good standing within the university and meet all expectations below. If you fail to meet any one of these expectations, you will be dismissed from your role and the program overall. 


 

  1. You must have and maintain a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA. 

  2. Be degree-seeking and enrolled in at least 6 credit hours in the fall and spring semester. 

  3. Must attend ALL mandatory Tuesday AB meetings and events [NO EXCPETIONS]

    • Steering Committee: 3:30pm to 5pm [Fall, Spring]

    • Workshops: 6:30pm to 8pm [Fall, Spring]

    • FIU Day of Service (3rd Saturday in October every year)

    • MLK Day of Service (Saturday on MLK weekend every year)

    • FIU CLS Leadership Summit

    • Any additional events where AB representation is expected: fundraisers, end of year banquet, hover the hallways, etc.

  4. Adhere to the FIU Student Code of Conduct. 

  5. Act in good judgement and be accountable for any actions that can be directly associated with CLS sponsored or organized activities.

  6. Be able to work effectively both as an individual and part of a team. 

  7. Present, engaged, and respectful during all virtual and remote meetings.

  8. Agree to uphold the values of the Alternative Breaks Program: Responsibility, resilience, equity through service, inclusivity, and reflection to action.
